The city of Weinan ( 渭南 , Wèinán ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Shaanxi . It is located in the east of the province and with 5.37 million inhabitants is the second largest city in the province after Xi'an . The urban area covers a total of 13,100 square kilometers. However, only 347,484 inhabitants live in the actual urban settlement area of ​​Weinan (2010 census).

In Weinan are the Qing'an Temple and the Huizhao Temple , whose pagodas are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China .

The city of Weinan was founded in 668 BC. . Chr founded. Wei (渭) is the name of a river, the Wei He , and Nan (南) means south in Chinese. That is why the name means the city on the southern bank of the Wei River .
