Weinan

The city of Weinan ( 渭南 , Wèinán ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Shaanxi . It is located in the east of the province and with 5.37 million inhabitants is the second largest city in the province after Xi'an . The urban area covers a total of 13,100 square kilometers. However, only 347,484 inhabitants live in the actual urban settlement area of Weinan (2010 census).

In Weinan are the Qing'an Temple and the Huizhao Temple , whose pagodas are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China .

The city of Weinan was founded in 668 BC. . Chr founded. Wei (渭) is the name of a river, the Wei He , and Nan (南) means south in Chinese. That is why the name means the city on the southern bank of the Wei River .

Weinan is located between the two Chinese capitals of Xi'an and Luoyang and has a long history.

Administrative structure

The administrative area of the district-free city of Weinan consists of two city districts, two urban districts and seven districts. These are:

Huazhou District - 华州区Huàzhōu Qū ;
Linwei Municipality - 临渭区Línwèi Qū ;
Huayin City - 华阴市Huàyīn Shì ;
Hancheng City - 韩城市Hánchéng Shì ;
Tongguan County - 潼关县Tóngguān Xiàn ;
Dali County - 大荔县Dàlì Xiàn ;
Circle Pucheng -蒲城县Pucheng Xiàn ;
Chengcheng County - 澄城县Chéngchéng Xiàn ;
Circle Baishui -白水县Báishuǐ Xiàn ;
Circle Heyang -合阳县Heyang Xiàn ;
Fuping County - 富平县Fùpíng Xiàn .

Weinan is located in the east of Shaanxi Province and has excellent transport links with the surrounding area, especially with the provincial capital Xi'an.

The Longhai Railway connects the city with Zhengzhou , Lanzhou , Xi'an and other major Chinese cities. The North Station of Weinan is due to the high-speed lines Xuzhou-Lanzhou and Datong-Xi'an . There are high-speed links to Beijing , Shanghai , Guangzhou , Shenzhen , Xi'an , Taiyuan and Zhengzhou.

There is currently no airport in the city, the nearest airport is Xi'an-Xianyang Airport , about 100 km from the city. A new regional airport is being planned in Tongguan County to boost tourism on Hua Shan .
