Yulin ( Chinese 榆林 , Pinyin Yúlín ) is a prefecture -level city in Shaanxi Province in the People's Republic of China . Yulin is located in the far north of the province and borders on the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region . The administrative area of the city has a total area of 43,578 km² (42% of which is desert) and approx. 3.38 million inhabitants (end of 2016).
Administrative structure
At county level, Yulin is composed of two districts one independent city and nine circles together. These are:
- (1) Yuyang District (榆阳区), 7,053 km², 460,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- (2) Shenmu City (神木 市), 7,635 km², 370,000 residents;
- (3) Fugu district (府谷 县), 3,212 km², 210,000 inhabitants, capital: Fugu municipality (府谷 镇);
- (4) Hengshan District (横山 区), 4,084 km², 330,000 inhabitants;
- (5) Jingbian County (靖边 县), 5,088 km², 290,000 inhabitants, main town: Zhangjiapan (张家 畔 镇);
- (6) Dingbian district (定边县), 6,920 km², 310,000 inhabitants, main town: Dingbian municipality (定 边 镇);
- (7) circuit Suide (绥德县), 1,878 square kilometers, 350,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Mingzhou (名州镇);
- (8) Mizhi County (米脂 县), 1,212 km², 210,000 inhabitants, capital: Yinzhou Municipality (银 州镇);
- (9) Jia County (佳县), 2,144 km², 250,000 inhabitants, capital: Jialu Municipality (佳 芦 镇);
- (10) county Wubu (吴堡县), 428 km², 80,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Songjiachuan (宋家川镇);
- (11) Qingjian County (清涧 县), 1,881 km², 210,000 inhabitants, capital: Kuanzhou Municipality (宽 洲镇);
- (12) county Zizhou (子洲县), 2,043 km², 310,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Shuanghuyu (双湖峪镇).
history
Yulin hosted the 11th CHIME (European Foundation for Chinese Music Research) conference in August 2006.
Culture
Due to the relative isolation, a considerable amount of classical architecture has been preserved in the city. Cultural relics are e.g. B. the " Zhenbeitai Watchtower ", built during the Ming Dynasty , and the " Rotstein Gorge ", a gorge with grottoes with Buddhist art. In addition, the standing ramparts of Yulin in the Ming Dynasty, the Song , Ming and Qing time ruins of Dailaicheng and the Han-temporal grave conditioning Zoumaliang on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China . In addition, parts of the ancient Great Wall , built during the Qin Dynasty , can be found scattered around the city.
