Baoji ( Chinese  寶雞 市  /  宝鸡 市 , Pinyin Bǎojī shì ) is a district-free city in the northwestern Chinese province of Shaanxi . It has an area of ​​18,235 km² and approx. 3.72 million inhabitants (2010), of which 871,940 inhabitants are in the city center. It is located about 150 km west of the provincial capital Xi'an on the Wei He River , which flows into the Huang He at Tongguan . Immediately south of the city, the Qin-Ling Mountains extend over 400 km .

Baoji has long been a traffic junction and was located on the ancient silk road from Xi'an to Parthia . Since the opening of the railway line to Chengdu in 1957, it has been a hub for cargo handling in northwest China. Railway workshops and the cotton, paper and tobacco processing industries are also of economic importance.

Several cultural sites classified as Monuments of the People's Republic of China are located in Baoji . In the Jintai district, for example, there are the Neolithic sites of Beishouling (北 首 岭 遗址, Běishǒulǐng yízhǐ ), the grave of Li Maozhen (李茂贞 墓, Lǐ Màozhēn mù ) from the time of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms , the Ming and Qing-era Jintai temples (金 台 观, Jīntái guān ), and the Zhou- era ruins of Ru village (茹 家庄 遗址, Rú jiā zhuāng yízhǐ ). In the Chencang district is the Qiaozhen site (桥镇 遗址, Qiáozhèn yízhǐ ) from the Neolithic and the Zhou Dynasty .

Baoji is made up of three boroughs and nine counties :

  • Jintai District ( 金 台 區  /  金 台 区 , Jīntái Qū ), seat of the city government;
  • Chencang District ( 陳倉 區  /  陈仓 区 , Chéncāng Qū );
  • Weibin District ( 渭濱 區  /  渭滨 区 , Wèibīn Qū );
  • Feng County ( 鳳縣  /  凤县 , Fèng Xiàn );
  • Fengxiang County ( 鳳翔縣  /  凤翔县 , Fèngxiáng Xiàn );
  • Fufeng County ( 扶風 縣  /  扶风 县 , Fúfēng Xiàn );
  • Circuit Linyou ( 麟游縣  /  麟游县 , Linyou Xiàn );
  • Circle Long ( 隴縣  /  陇县 , Lǒng Xiàn );
  • Mei County ( 眉縣  /  眉县 , Méi Xiàn );
  • Qianyang County ( 千陽縣  /  千阳县 , Qiānyáng Xiàn );
  • Circuit Qishan ( 岐山縣  /  岐山县 , Qishan Xiàn );
