Xi'an Xianyang International Airport ( Chinese 西安 咸阳 国际 机场 , Pinyin Xian Xianyang Guoji Jichang ) is the airport of the provincial capital Xi'an , Shaanxi in the People's Republic of China . The airport is located in the urban area of the neighboring city of Xianyang . It is the largest airport in northwest China and is 43 km from Xi'an city center. It is a hub for China Eastern Airlines .
history
As early as 1984 the State Council of the People's Republic of China planned to expand the airport. The expansion of the airport was divided into several phases, so that the old Xi'an Xiguan Airport could be closed in 1991 after the completion of the first phase. Since 2000, further conversions and extensions (terminal building, freight handling building and hotels) have been carried out. On May 3, 2012, a second runway and a third terminal building went into operation.

Xi'an Xianyang Airport is the home airport of Chang An Airlines and Joy Air and a hub for Okay Airways , Tianjin Airlines , Hainan Airlines , Sichuan Airlines , Shenzhen Airlines and China Eastern Airlines .
Air France , Alitalia , British Airways , Finnair , KLM , Lufthansa , TAP Air Portugal , Turkish Airlines and Ural Airlines fly to the airport from Europe .
