Sichuan Airlines Co., Ltd. ( Chinese 四川 航空 ) is a Chinese airline based in Chengdu and based at Chengdu-Shuangliu Airport .

history

Sichuan Airlines was founded on September 19, 1986 after the Sichuan provincial government saw the need for its own airline. It began flight operations on July 14, 1988 with a Yunshuji Y-7 on a route between Chengdu and Wanzhou (formerly Wanxian). In the following year, more Yunshuji Y-7s were procured, and since the 1991 winter flight plan, a route to Beijing has also been served with a Tupolev Tu-154M . The airline's growth made it necessary to purchase more aircraft, after leasing three Airbus A320s , the fleet was almost completely converted to Airbus over time.

The Xinxing Alliance was founded at the end of 1997 together with the airlines Grand China Air , Shandong Airlines , Shenzhen Airlines , Wuhan Airlines and Zhongyuan Airlines . In 1998 and 1999 further Airbus A320 and A321 were purchased.

In August 2002 the company was reorganized, the new main owner with 40% became the Sichuan Airlines Group , owned by the provincial government. The other owners are China Southern Airlines with 39%, Shandong Airlines and Shanghai Airlines with 10% each and Ginkgo Restaurant with 1%.

In June 2010, Sichuan Airlines increased its stake in Northeast Airlines from 33.5% to 97% and thus took control. Since then it has operated as Hebei Airlines .

Destinations

From its aviation hubs, Sichuan Airlines serves destinations in the People's Republic of China as well as destinations in the whole of Asia , Australia, Europe and North America. It also has a codeshare agreement with KLM on the Amsterdam - Chengdu route, which is operated exclusively by KLM. In German-speaking countries, Zurich has been served since March 26, 2018.
