Wuhan Airlines was a Chinese airline based in Wuhan , People's Republic of China , founded in 1986. In September 1997, Wuhan Airlines founded the Chinese aviation alliance Xinxing together with Hainan Airlines , Shandong Airlines , Shenzhen Airlines , Sichuan Airlines and Zhongyuan Airlines . In 2002 the airline was taken over by China Eastern Airlines and integrated into the parent company in 2003.
Incidents
The company recorded 2 incidents with total loss of the aircraft and fatalities in its history:
- On October 8, 1992, an Avia 14 (Ilyushin Il-14) of Wuhan Airlines ( aircraft registration number B-4211) crashed while attempting to return to Lanzhou Airport after engine problems had occurred during take-off. 14 of the 35 inmates were killed.
- On June 22, 2000, a Wuhan Airlines Xian Y-7-100C (registration number B-3479) crashed about 25 km from Wuhan Airport due to wind shear , killing all 42 people on board and another 7 on the ground (see also Wuhan Airlines Flight 343 ) .
