China Daily ( Chinese  中國 日報  /  中国 日报 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Rìbào ) is the first and largest English-language daily newspaper in the People's Republic of China .

history

China Daily was established on June 1, 1981 and is state-owned. It is therefore not an official organ of the Chinese Communist Party , but is considered a "quasi-party newspaper".

In 2011 the newspaper was the most widely used English-language daily newspaper in the People's Republic of China with a circulation of more than 500,000 copies. A third of the edition is sold outside of China. The editorial office is in Beijing , the newspaper maintains editorial offices in many large cities in the country as well as in several foreign capitals. The newspaper is printed in Beijing, Shanghai , Guangzhou , Hong Kong and, via satellite, in Europe and New York City in the United States. The newspaper has also had an internet presence since 1995. There is also a Chinese version of this website.

Many of the China Daily Group branded publications are now being distributed in digital form.
