Grand China Air ( Chinese 大 新華 航空 ) is a Chinese airline based in Haikou and based at Haikou-Meilan Airport . It is a subsidiary of the HNA Group .
history
The parent company HNA Group owns shares in the airlines Shanxi Airlines (92.51%), Chang An Airlines (73.51%), China Xinhua Airlines (60%), Shilin Airlines (48.9%) and Suparna Airlines (15% ). In 2005 it was announced that the airlines would merge into Grand China Air. The merger was initiated on November 30, 2007. At the same time, the airline became the property of the newly founded Grand China Airlines Holding, which in turn was a joint venture between the provincial government of Hainan (stake of 48.6%), the US investment banker George Soros (18.6%) and the HNA Group ( 32.8%).
As of November 2015, the integration of the sister companies has still not been completed. In the meantime, these fly under a uniform brand identity, but still under their own names. In May 2013, the HNA Group announced that it would found further subsidiaries and thus move away from a merger under one brand. The website of Grand China Air has meanwhile been integrated into that of the much larger Hainan Airlines.
