ch-aviation is an information and news portal in the field of civil aviation with worldwide customers. The seat of the ch-aviation GmbH is located in Chur , Switzerland .

history

In 1998 ch-aviation was started by Thomas Jäger. In the early days, the website, available in both German and English, focused primarily on civil aviation in Switzerland. On February 27, 2012, ch-aviation GmbH was entered in the commercial register with a share capital of CHF 20,000 and - after the offer was expanded to include worldwide data - this meant that most of the information, which was previously available free of charge, was subject to a charge. Since January 2016, the information offer can only be viewed after taking out a subscription; the free offer is limited to a few areas. The reference to Switzerland has lapsed and the German version has been discontinued.

In 2016, the news about strategic decisions and fleet changes by airlines was supplemented by a database that was created on request and with the support of Munich Airport : The airport operators needed a directory to calculate landing fees after the printed version of the directory was no longer available in 2015 . This expanded database from ch-aviation records almost all global passenger aircraft in international air traffic, including the corresponding data for maximum take-off weight , seat configuration, engines and age of the aircraft.

Munich Airport thus became the first customer of the ch-aviation database, while up to 1500 changes per week were processed on the entire site at the beginning of 2016.

Services

ch-aviation offers a partly publicly accessible news section in which news appears daily, with the focus of reporting on the field of fleet development and the airlines' strategies. In addition, ch-aviation offers an extensive database containing information on flight schedules, aircraft, airlines and airports. It lists over 41,000 aircraft and over 1,000 airlines. Access requires registration and has been subject to a charge to the extended database since 2016; the free offer was severely restricted.

According to its own information, the information portal reaches over 1.2 million users annually. Customers include airlines such as Asiana Airlines and vueling , airports such as Denver , Toronto , Atlanta and Munich , brokers such as Air Partner , lessors such as AerCap and authorities such as Statistics Austria , the US Treasury and the US Department of Commerce . Furthermore, IT service providers such as the Amadeus IT Group or Hahn Air Lines as well as numerous other companies such as hotels and car rental companies use ch-aviation's services.
