The AerCap Holdings NV is a Dutch company, based at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport . AerCap is one of the world's largest aircraft leasing companies with 1,372 aircraft in the first quarter of 2020.
history
The company was founded in 1975 as Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA). The company went public in 1992 . In the course of a restructuring in 1993, part of the fleet was sold to the competitor GE Capital Aviation Services (GE CAS). Another 229 aircraft had to be sold in 1996.
1998 GPA was from associated companies Texas Pacific Group acquired and AerFi renamed. In 1999, the Swedish competitor Indigo Aviation was taken over. In 2000 AerFi, with a fleet of 104 aircraft, was taken over by debis AirFinance . In 2005 it was taken over by Cerberus Capital and the name was changed to AerCap, which was listed on the New York Stock Exchange again the following year .
In 2010, Genesis Lease Limited was acquired by GE CAP, which increased the fleet to 358 aircraft and market share in aircraft leasing to around 5%.
In 2012 AerDragon was founded as a joint venture with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation .
In 2014, the US American ILFC with around 1,000 aircraft and a market share of over 30% was taken over by the American International Group and fully integrated into the company. Since then, AerCap has had one of the largest aircraft fleets in the world.
In 2016, the company's operational headquarters were relocated to Dublin , Ireland .
