GE Capital Aviation Services (formerly GE Commercial Aviation Service ) - short GECAS - is a leading US-American - Irish leasing company for aircraft based in Stamford .

Companies

The company was founded in 1964 and is a subsidiary of GE Commercial Finance , which is part of General Electric .

GECAS is one of the most important and largest aircraft leasing companies worldwide. 225 airlines in 60 countries have leased their aircraft through GECAS. Leasing is a way for airlines to lower their cost of capital. For this possibility, GECAS often acts as buyer and subsequent lessor in sale-and-lease-back transactions .

In 2005 the company had sales of $ 3.5 billion and profits of $ 764 million. Since spring 2010, the company has been run within the GE Group as the Commercial Lending and Leasing (CLL) division.

At the end of 2012, the GECAS fleet consisted of 1,742 passenger and cargo aircraft, most of them from Airbus , Boeing , Bombardier and Embraer . Almost the entire fleet is equipped with engines from GE Aviation , another subsidiary of General Electric.

The main competitor until 2014 was the US ILFC (now AerCap ).
