The airport Chongqing Jiangbei ( Chinese 重庆江北国际机场 , Pinyin Chongqing Jiangbei Guoji Jīchǎng , English: Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport , IATA code : CKG , ICAO code : Twitching ) is an airport in the northeastern Chinese city of Chongqing . The airport is operated by the Chongqing Airport Group Co. Ltd. and is the eighth largest airport in China in terms of the number of passengers.
Location and transport links
The airport is located about 21 kilometers northeast of Chongqing city center in the Lianglu street in the Yubei district .
Because the G210 motorway is the only road connection from the city center to the airport, it is usually very busy and a journey takes about 30 minutes. A second motorway is under construction.
Some bus routes and shuttles connect the airport with the surrounding regions of Chongqing City (e.g. Dianjiang , Wanzhou ) and other cities in the provinces of Sezuan (e.g. Yibin , Neijiang ) and Guizhou (e.g. Chishui , Zunyi ).
Line 3 of the Chongqing Rail Transit runs from the airport via the city center to the terminus Yudong. Another line (line 10) has served Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 since 2017.
history
Already in the 1920s was the airport Chongqing Baishiyi who today works only as a military airport, built in the southwest Chongqing. After the Civil Administration of China settled in the Sezuan Province in 1965, the airport increasingly lost its importance. On January 22, 1990, Jiangbei Airport was opened as a replacement to Baishiyi.
expansion
The airport is currently undergoing extensive expansion and is to have a total of four runways. It is one of the fastest growing airports in the world.
A new runway and the new Terminal 3A with an area of around 537,000 square meters are under construction - after completion, the airport will have a total area of around 7 million square meters.
