Neijiang
Neijiang ( Chinese 内江 市 , Pinyin Nèijiāng Shì ) is a district-free city in the southeast of the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan . Neijiang is bordered by the cities of Luzhou and Zigong to the south, by the city of Meishan to the west, by the city of Ziyang to the north and by the government-direct city of Chongqing to the east . The administrative area of Neijiang has an area of 5,386 km² and approx. 4.2 million inhabitants (end of 2004). In the 2000 census, 4,160,305 inhabitants were counted.
Administrative structure
At county level, Neijiang two sets boroughs , an independent city and two circles together. These are:
- Shizhong district (市 中 区 = "city center"), 388 km², 540,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- Dongxing District (东兴 区), 1,181 km², 850,000 inhabitants;
- County Weiyuan (威远县), km² 1289, 740,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Yanling (严陵镇);
- Zizhong County (资 中 县), 1,734 km², 1.31 million inhabitants, capital: Chonglong Municipality (重 龙镇);
- Longchang county-level city (隆昌 市), 794 km², 760,000 inhabitants.
history
Originally Neijiang ("inner river") was called Zhongjiang (中 江 = "middle river"). In 1950, the Neijiang District (内江 专区) was established and subordinated to the South Sichuan Administrative Region. In 1951, the urban area was separated from Neijiang County (内江 县) and the independent city of Neijiang (内江 市) was founded. In 1970, Neijiang District was converted into Neijiang Governorate (内江 地区). In 1985, the State Council of the People's Republic of China decided to dissolve the Neijiang Governorate and the Neijiang City, to establish the new Neijiang City on the administrative area of the former administrative district, and the Shizhong District on the administrative area of the former city. In 1989, Neijiang County was finally dissolved and converted to Dongxing District. On February 26, 1998, the State Council decided to separate the districts of Anyue (安岳 县) and Lezhi (乐至县) and the independent cities of Ziyang (资阳市) and Jianyang (简阳 市) from the administrative area of the prefecture -level city of Neijiang and in this area Establish Ziyang Governorate (资 阳 地区).
