The Kunming Changshui International Airport ( IATA : KMG , ICAO : ZPPP ) is the commercial airport of Kunming , the capital of China's Yunnan -Provinz. The airport is located 24.5 km northeast of the city center on a high plateau approximately 2100 m above sea level. With the official commissioning on June 28, 2012, the old Kunming-Wujiaba Airport was replaced, some of which will be demolished. The airport is the fourth largest in China and is one of the five most important flight connections with Beijing , Shanghai , Guangzhou and Urumqi . It serves China Eastern Airlines , Kunming Airlines , Lucky Air , Sichuan Airlines and Ruili Airlines as a hub for Southeast and South Asia.

The new airport has two runways (compared to Wujiaba with one runway). In 2013, 30 million passengers were handled, making Kunming-Changshui one of the world's largest commercial airports . In 2020, 38 million passengers are expected to be handled per year.

The main terminal was built by the architecture office SOM and the engineering office Arup .
