Shanghai Airlines ( Chinese 上海 航空公司 ) is a Chinese airline based in Shanghai and based at Shanghai Pudong International Airport . It is a subsidiary of China Eastern and therefore a member of the SkyTeam aviation alliance .
history
Shanghai Airlines was founded in 1985 by the regional administration of the Shanghai district, but was only able to operate flights from 1988. It is a member of the Chinese aviation alliance China Sky Aviation Enterprises Group and operates a subsidiary called China United Airlines , based at Beijing Nanyuan Airport .
China Eastern took over Shanghai Airlines on October 12, 2009 . After China Eastern's decision to join the SkyTeam alliance , it was initially doubtful whether Shanghai Airlines would remain in the Star Alliance . By October 31, 2010, Shanghai Airlines left the Star Alliance.
In October 2011, the parent company China Eastern canceled an order for 24 Boeing 787-8s due to ongoing delivery delays, nine of which were for Shanghai Airlines.

In addition to national connections, Shanghai Airlines offers international flights from its two hubs, Shanghai-Hongqiao and Shanghai-Pudong .
