He Hui ( Chinese和 慧; * 1972 in Ankang ), known in the West and on record as Hui He, is a Chinese opera and concert singer in the soprano voice , who is known for her interpretation of the operas of Giacomo Puccini and Giuseppi Verdi .

Life

Youth and education

He Hui was born and raised in Ankang. She was already interested in Western music at school and studied singing at the Xi'an Conservatory with Professor Rao Yujian (饶 余 鋻). In 1994 she completed her bachelor's degree there and then stayed as a singing teacher at the conservatory.

Career

He Hui made his debut in Shanghai in 1995 as a mezzo-soprano in the role of Dorabella in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte . She soon switched to the soprano voice and was successful in the title role of Verdi's Aida at the opening event of the Shanghai Grand Theater in 1998 . Also in Shanghai in 1999 she sang Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and in 2000 again Aida.

In 2000, she took part in the Operalia competition in Los Angeles and took second place. Then she had the opportunity to give a concert with Plácido Domingo in Shanghai and in the same year to sing Aida at the Los Angeles Opera and Liù in Puccini's Turandot in Washington.

She gave Tosca in the Arena di Verona under the direction of Daniel Oren and Amelia at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo .
