Roberto Alagna
Roberto Alagna (born June 7, 1963 in Clichy-sous-Bois , France ) is a French opera singer ( tenor ) of Italian origin.
Life
The son of Italian parents grew up in Paris, where he also studied singing. In 1988 he won first prize at the International Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia. The lyric tenor made his operatic debut as Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera. He sang the role at many well-known opera houses, and finally in 1990 at La Scala in Milan . He made his debut at the Royal Opera House in London in 1992 as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème - another star role . During the production, he met the Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu , with whom he had been married since 1996 and has often performed together since then. The couple announced their split in early 2013.
The singer has been accused of starry airs in the past , after he left the stage at a performance of Verdi's Aida on December 10, 2006 at La Scala in Milan after boos from the audience following the aria Celeste Aida at the beginning of act 1 . The tenor Antonello Palombi , who was hired to step in , jumped in on the fly, albeit without a costume, and thus saved the performance. Alagna later made the statement that his voice had failed and withdrew from the stage for some time.
In the summer of 2008, his opera galas in Germany, which he played together with the soprano Barbara Krieger , received a standing ovation again. He also sang the role of Radames in Aida again with great success in various performances, such as in the summer of 2014 at the opera festival in the Théâtre Antique d'Orange in Orange , southern France. He canceled his debut at the Bayreuth Festival 2018 in the title role of Lohengrin due to overload just under a month before his planned appearance.
In addition to his appearances on all major international opera stages, he has recorded numerous CDs that have received numerous awards. After his first foray into the 'light muse' with the CD Roberto Alagna chante Luis Mariano in 2005 he recorded the CD Il Siciliano in 2008 .
He has been married to the Polish singer Alexandra Kurzak since November 2015 . Their daughter was born in 2014.
