The Shanghai Grand Theater ( Chinese 上海 大 劇院 / 上海 大 剧院 , Pinyin Shànghǎi dà jùyuàn , abbreviated SGT ) is a theater and opera house in Shanghai and is one of the largest and most important institutions for the performing arts in the People's Republic of China . The theater is part of the ensemble of buildings on Volksplatz and is a new landmark for the city.
