A playhouse is a theater building that is mainly used for the performance of plays , i.e. spoken theater. The term Schauspielhaus is often used for the theater business (in the institutional sense) that is active there. This applies in particular to theaters that only offer acting and have no musical theater or dance division. Playhouse in this sense is often a company with several venues, so it does not refer to a specific building.
