The Dallas Opera is an opera institution based in Dallas ( Texas ).

The company was founded in 1957 by Laurence Kelly and Nicola Rescigno as the Dallas Civic Opera . Both were active in the Lyric Opera of Chicago , the former as a director, the latter as artistic director.

From 1957 to 2009 the Dallas Opera played at the Music Hall at Fair Park . However, the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House has existed since the 2009 season, and has now been played since the premiere of Moby-Dick by Jake Heggie .

Keith Cerny has been the company's CEO since 2010. The Briton Graeme Jenkins was music director from 1994 to 2013. Since May 2013, the French Emmanuel Villaume has been his successor.
