The Betway UK Championship 2019 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2019/20 season , which took place from November 26th to December 8th, 2019. For the 15th time, the Barbican Center in York in the north of England was the venue for the traditional tournament, which took place for the 43rd time since 1977.

Ronnie O'Sullivan had won the tournament for the past two years, this year he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Ding Junhui . The Chinese then reached the final, where he met Stephen Maguire from Scotland . Ding won the final 10: 6 and thus secured his third title as UK Champion after 2005 and 2009 and his 14th overall title.

Prize money

The prize money has increased significantly this year. The UK Championship was the second tournament after the World Cup to top the grand total of £ 1 million . Of the additional £ 150,000, £ 30,000 went to the winner, and £ 5,000 more each went to the losing finalist and the two semi-finalists. The bonus for the remaining participants was £ 2,000 or £ 1,500 for the first-round winners.

Tournament schedule

127 professional players had registered for the tournament. One free place went to the best amateur in the Q School Order of Merit 2019, the Irish Ross Bulman. He was drawn to defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan . The first round was held on the three days of November from Tuesday to Thursday. Friday was free and from Saturday the remaining 64 players continued to play. The next three rounds were scheduled to take 2 days each, the last three days were quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
