The UK Championship 2008 was a snooker tournament that was played from December 13-21, 2008. For the second time it took place at the International Center of Telford in the English West Midlands . Shaun Murphy won the final just 10: 9 against Marco Fu . For the Englishman it was the second big title on the Main Tour after the World Cup in 2005 . Marco Fu was the second Asian player in a UK Championship final after Ding Junhui three years earlier.

Ding in turn achieved the eighth maximum break in tournament history in the round of 16 . For the second time since 1999/2000 there was a 147 break in two consecutive tournaments. Ding had already achieved his first maximum at the 2007 Masters .

Prize money

This year there was just under £ 35,000 more than last year, the second highest prize money ever, but still more than £ 100,000 less than in the record year 2001. The reverse of the previous year, however, this time it was all players except the players Top 4 who benefited from the increase.

The tournament was played according to the same mode and schedule as last year. The qualification in four rounds was played from December 1st to 8th. 16 players qualified for the main tournament against the top 16 in the world rankings, which were already seeded.

1Mark Davis had to give up his opening match due to illness in the second frame; the remaining frames were scored for Joe Perry.
2 After Mark Davis, Ian McCulloch also had to give up his match in Round 1 due to malaise, at the time of the surrender it was 6-2 for Ali Carter.

Century Breaks

6 Century Breaks were achieved this year more than last year, namely 48. By far the most successful player was finalist Marco Fu with 8 breaks of 100 or more points, one more than Stephen Maguire last year. Ding Junhui achieved the highest possible regular score . His maximum break earned him a high premium, but he clearly lost the game in the round of 16 with 4: 9.
