The UK Championship 2003 was a snooker tournament that was held from November 18-30, 2003. For the second time the tournament took place in the Barbican Center in York . In the third attempt after 1998 and 1999 the Welshman Matthew Stevens won the title. It was his only win in a world ranking tournament. For his opponent Stephen Hendry it was the ninth appearance in the final, which made him level with Steve Davis . It was the fourth defeat for the Scots, Davis had only lost three of his nine finals.
Prize money
Compared to the previous year, almost nothing changed in the prize money, everything stayed the same for the top 16, and there were minor shifts in the lower positions.

qualification
For the third time in a row, the tournament was played in the same mode with a total of 128 players. The four qualifying rounds took place about a month before the main tournament on October 14-23.

As in previous years, the 16 best-placed players in the world rankings were set for round 2, 32 players competed against each other in round 1 to determine their opponents.

With 62 century breaks from the round of the last 48, the result of two years ago was exceeded by 7. But that was mainly thanks to Ronnie O'Sullivan , who broke Stephen Hendry's tournament record in 1994 with 12 breaks of 100 or more points . Hendry also had a top result with 9 Centurys.
