The Betway UK Championship 2018 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2018/19 season , which was held from November 27 to December 9, 2018 at the Barbican Center in York , Northern England .

Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan repeated his triumph with a 10-6 final win over Mark Allen . For O'Sullivan it was the 7th title win at the UK Championship and the 34th win in a ranking tournament. In addition, with this 19th victory in a Triple Crown tournament , O'Sullivan is now the sole record holder ahead of Stephen Hendry .

The biggest surprise of the tournament was the first round out of world number one Mark Selby against the amateur player James Cahill .

The Rolling 147 Prize for a maximum break was £ 15,000.

Tournament schedule

123 professional players had registered for the tournament. Accordingly, five amateurs came into play as successors. The first round was held on the three days of November from Tuesday to Thursday. Friday was free and from Saturday the remaining 64 players continued to play. The television broadcast also began with round 2 on Saturday.

First round to round of 16

The biggest surprise of the first round was the victory of the amateur James Cahill over world number one Mark Selby , but other top players were eliminated from those who were far lower in the ranking. So Shaun Murphy against Chen Feilong, Ryan Day against Joe O'Connor, Anthony McGill against Lu Ning and Liang Wenbo against Sam Baird. John Higgins barely managed a first round win against Dechawat Poomjaeng.
