final
Although both players had been among the world's best for a long time, it was only their third final encounter. They had met twice before in a World Cup final and each had won the title once. Last year both had won two ranking tournaments, this season they were in a final for the first time. World number one Mark Selby got off to a better start and took a 3-1 lead until the first break. But it was the only time in the entire final that a player was more than one frame ahead. After John Higgins had equalized to 3: 3, it was almost always he who took the lead and Selby who immediately equalized. The Scot was 5: 4 at the break of the session and led 8: 7 and 9: 8 in the evening. In the 18th frame he even took a 48-0 lead before his break ended. He didn't get the missing points to win, instead Selby fought his way back. With 78:52 points he evened out and saved himself in the decider. Although this was just as competitive as the entire match, the Englishman in particular scored points and secured victory and title with two breaks in the 30s. For the third time in a row and for the seventh time overall, Mark Selby won the rankings in China.
