The HongRuiMa World Open 2018 was a snooker tournament of the main tour - season 2018/19 . It was the sixth edition of the tournament in the People's Republic of China and the third in Yushan in the southeast of the country. The main round was played in the week from 6 to 12 August. Of the top players, Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins stayed away from the tournament.
The defending champion was Chinese Ding Junhui , who was eliminated in the second round shortly after becoming a father for the first time. The tournament winner was the Welsh world champion Mark Williams , who defeated the Englishman David Gilbert 10: 9 in the narrowest final in World Open history .
Prize money
The prize money has increased by £ 35,000 compared to the previous year . The extra money went to the losers from the second main round to the semi-finals as well as the players who played the highest break of the tournament.

Final round
The games of the final round were played in best-of-9 mode up to and including the quarter-finals . In the semifinals, the best of 11 was considered and the final was won by whoever was the first to win more than half of 19 frames (10 winning frames). As in the previous year, there were four wildcard players selected by the Chinese association who went straight to the qualifying round. Their games and three other preliminary round games by Chinese top players were played before the start of the main tournament.

qualification
The qualification took place July 6-9, 2018 in Preston , North West England . The city's Guild Hall played most of the qualifying round matches with 128 players. The games of the best Chinese players ( Ding Junhui , Liang Wenbo and Yan Bingtao ), the world champion Mark Williams and four games with wildcard players, which had been nominated by the Chinese association, were played in Yushan in August just before the start of the main tournament. All games were played in best-of-9 mode .

11 players had 14 century breaks in the first part of the qualifying round by July 9th . In the 8 qualifying matches that were played in Yushan, four more Centuries of three players were added.
