The Royal London Watches Grand Prix 2006 was a snooker tournament of the Main Tour - 2006/07 . For the first time since the tournament was introduced, it was not played in England. It took place from October 21 to 29 at the Exhibition and Conference Center in Aberdeen, Scotland (AECC). With the new venue also came a new tournament mode: For the first time there was a preliminary round with 8 groups. In each group everyone played against everyone for the two places that meant advancement to the round of 16 of the elimination tournament.

John Higgins had won the last tournament in England, this time he made it to the quarter-finals. The Australian Neil Robertson achieved his first ranking victory with a 9: 5 win in the final over the Englishman Jamie Cope .

Group stage

The top 32 of the snooker world rankings were set for the main tournament. 16 players had prevailed in the qualification. These 48 players were divided into 8 groups of 6 players each. Each group played in the mode everyone against everyone and the two best players then made it to the round of 16. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided.
