The 2007 Malta Cup was a snooker tournament of the 2006/07 season that was held from January 28 to February 4, 2007 at the Hilton Conference Center in Portomaso . It was the fourth tournament in the port district of St Julian's and the third time that the tournament was called the Malta Cup . At the same time it was also the last time that the Malta Cup was a world ranking tournament. The Malta Cup 2008 was held as an invitation tournament.
The defending champion was the Irishman Ken Doherty . This time he made it to the quarterfinals. Shaun Murphy and Ryan Day played the final . The Englishman won 9: 4 and took his second rankings victory after the 2005 world championship .
Prize money / world ranking points
The total prize money increased significantly by two thirds compared to the previous year. So not only the last 32 got a bonus in the main tournament, but also the losers of the last qualifying round (the last 64). The winner got £ 12,000 more than in 2006. The points for the world rankings remained the same as the distribution key for simple tournaments.

Final round
As in the previous year, the two (in 2005 there were four) the lowest placed qualification winners in the world rankings had to compete against two local players with a wildcard before the main tournament began . The winners contested the main tournament together with the other qualified and the top 16 in the world rankings.
Wildcard round
As in the previous year, ex-professional Joe Grech and amateur Simon Zammit were selected for the wildcard round. As in the previous tournaments, no local player made it into the main tournament.
Top 32 to the final finalIt was the second final of the season for both players, Ryan Day had lost at the beginning of the season at the Shanghai Masters , Shaun Murphy was beaten in the Pot-Black final. Nevertheless, the Englishman with the experience of a world title was the favorite. He pulled away to 4: 0 right up to the first break and was leading 7: 1 at the end of the session. Day won the first frame of the evening session, but the following 8-2 meant that Murphy only needed one frame to win the game. Day was able to shorten it by two frames with a Century and an 83 break, but then Murphy made his second ranking victory perfect.
