San Ġiljan ( English : St. Julian’s or St. Julians ) is a city in the Northern Harbor district on the northeast coast of Malta with 13,792 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018).
history
Originally, Saint Julian's was a small fishing village on Spinola Bay , where a small port is still located today . From the 1930s onwards, increasingly wealthy Maltese settled in St Julian's , which changed the image of the place - accelerated by the increasing concentration of the economy on tourism .
The district of Paceville is located in the west of St. Julian's, between Spinola Bay and St. George's Bay.
Appearance
San Ġiljan is particularly famous for its entertainment district Paceville (also: Paċeville) with more than 350 discos , bars and pubs . It is precisely because of this leisure offer that San iljan, together with the neighboring town of Sliema, is considered a party stronghold on the island and is particularly popular with young holidaymakers, but also with the locals. Paceville is sometimes called "Sin City".
San Ġiljan Additional facilities include several hotels luxury hotels such as the Hilton , Intercontinental and Westin, and the unpopular among the local population skyscraper Portomaso Business Tower .
Since 2013, the place has hosted the only Chabad center for the Jews of the island kingdom and guests. The center celebrates all religious festivals of the Jews, there is also a kindergarten and the only kosher restaurant in Malta.
