With 24,356 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Birkirkara is the largest municipality in the island state of Malta .

geography

The parish of Birkirkara consists of the districts of St Helen, St Joseph, Our Lady of the Carmel, and St Mary. To the west is the Simonds Farsons Brewery in the Mriehel district .

history

Birkirkara is one of the oldest cities in Malta and still has an aqueduct today. St. Aloysius' College, founded in 1907, is located in the city .

Attractions

  • Church of St. Helenas: The church of St. Helenas is an impressive work of art. In 1950 she was founded by Pope Pius XII. raised to the minor basilica . In honor of St. Helena , a festival takes place every year on the Catholic Memorial Day on August 18th.
