Kalkara (or Il-Kalkara ) is a small town in Malta with 3059 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). The name is derived from the Maltese word for "kiln", as such a kiln for burning lime has existed here since Roman times.

The Fort Ricasoli on the northern tip of the municipal area forms the eastern part of the entrance to the Grand Harbor of Malta. A part of the film Troy (with Brad Pitt, among others ) was shot in its vicinity in 2003 . Some of the backdrops are still there.

The Maltese television station Xandir Malta is located in the Ricasoli Industrial Estate , which is also part of the municipality . There is also a theme park in the Rinella Battery about the Maltese film studios that are also located there.

The main part of the industrial park was completely cleared at the end of 2006 ; the local production companies (e.g. for detergents, paints, chemical and pharmaceutical products) were distributed to industrial parks all over the island of Malta. Instead, Smart City is to be built there in the next few years , an industrial park for the best-known companies in IT production (e.g. Microsoft, Siemens, Apple).
