Qormi [ ˈʔɔrmɪ ], also known as Ħal Qormi or Città Pinto , is a city in Malta . It is located southwest of Valletta in the interior of the island of Malta. The neighboring communities of Qormi are Marsa , Luqa and Żebbuġ . Qormi is located southeast of the main road from Mdina to Valletta .

The patron saints of Qormi are St. George and St. Sebastian . In summer, the population celebrates their patron saint for two weeks. The city is also known for its Good Friday processions , which are attended by over 500 people each year.

The area was settled as early as the Bronze Age. Some burial sites found in the last century suggest that the Phoenicians traded with the population of the time. In the 15th century, Qormi established itself as one of Malta's first parishes and at that time also had the largest parish church in Malta.

The population of Qormi grew in the 18th century and Manuel Pinto de Fonseca , Grand Master of the Order of Malta , granted it city rights on May 25, 1743 . Like most of the interior of the island of Malta, Qormi is densely populated.

Qormi used to be called Casal Fornaro (painted for: baker's village) because there were a large number of bakeries there. It was in the city that the bread for most of Malta was baked.

Qormi today

Qormi is governed by a city council (Local Council), which was established in 1993 under the "Local Council Act".

Qormi's parish has a radio station, "Bastjanizi FM". There is also the "Qormi Basketball Club", one of the best Maltese basketball teams, and the "Qormi Hockey Club", as well as the football club "Qormi FC".

Qormi is now one of Malta's most important centers for trade and industry.
