Life

In 1749, his bodyguard Cassar refused to participate in a Muslim slave revolt led by Mustafa Pascha , later Grand Vizier of Sultan Osman III. , was planned. This led to the exposure and suppression of the revolt . This event was then celebrated every June 29th.

He left the hostel of the Castilians (Auberge de Castille et Leone), which had been started in 1574, complete. It is one of the most imposing buildings in Valletta.

He was friends with the impostor and alchemist Cagliostro .

He maintained the best connections in the European ruling houses and significantly expanded the army of the order. He was committed to the arts and education.
