Lija is a village west of the capital of Malta , Valletta . It is almost completely fused with the neighboring towns of Attard and Balzan, together they are also known as the three villages . There are numerous old villas in Lija, some dating back to the 16th century.

Lija is also known because of the "University Residence" founded there in 1994. This is both a residential building for international guest students at the University of Malta , but also a youth hostel .

history

The area of Lija was already populated in prehistoric times, which is still evidenced by megaliths today . The present village dates back to the 16th century. In 1837, Ljia was one of the first Maltese villages to have a school. One of the three conference venues where the 1921 constitution was drawn up is located in the town.
