Cospicua (also: Bormla ) is a city in the east of Malta with 5170 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018).
It is located between Vittoriosa ( Birgu ) and Senglea (L'Isla), with Cospicua being the largest of the three cities that are collectively called Cottonera . Cospicua is located south of the capital Valletta .
Cospicua is the youngest of the Cottonera cities. It originated in the 16th century as a suburb of Vittoriosa .
In Cospicua there are large bastions built by the Knights of Malta .
The city was bombed several times during World War II because of its ship docks .
The local football club St. George's FC played in the Maltese Premier League until 2007 .
