Munxar [ ˈmʊnʃɐr ] (or Il-Munxar ) is a village on the south coast of the island of Gozo in the Republic of Malta . It is located near the village of Sannat , has its own municipal council and 1221 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). The municipality of Xlendi also belongs to the municipality of Munxar .
The name Munxar means "saw" in German and the teeth of a saw are also visible in the village's coat of arms.
One of the most famous sons of the village was Joseph Aquilina (1911–1997). He was a lawyer and professor of philology at the Universities of Malta and London and published a Maltese-English dictionary.
The rock grave of Wied tax-Xlendi lies between the Wied tax-Xlendi and the Wied tal-Ghancija about west of Il-Munxar.
