The Partit Laburista (PL; English Malta Labor Party (MLP)) is the social democratic party of Malta .

history

The party was founded in 1921. Besides the conservative Nationalist Party , the Malta Labor Party is the second major people's party in Malta. In 1969, the party's communist faction split off and formed the Communist Party of Malta .

At European level, the party belongs to the Party of European Socialists and has had three of the six Maltese MEPs in the European Parliament since the 2014 European elections . In foreign policy, the MLP takes a course of foreign policy neutrality and is skeptical of the EU .

The MLP owns the television station One TV (formerly Super One Television ), the radio station Super One Radio and the weekly Sunday newspaper KullĦadd .

In the parliamentary elections in Malta 2013 , the Labor Party won the majority in parliament for the first time in 15 years with 54.8 percent.
