The Communist Party of Malta ( Partit Komunista Malti , PKM) is a Maltese communist political party.

history

The Communist Party of Malta was founded in 1969 by former members of the Partit Laburista at a clandestine congress in Gwardamanġa . In 1987 the PKM took part in elections for the Maltese House of Representatives for the first time, but failed to make it into parliament with 0.1% of the first preferences submitted. Since then she has not participated in national elections or in the Maltese elections to the European Parliament .

International organization

At the European level, the Communist Party of Malta is organized in the initiative of Communist and Workers' Parties of Europe (INITIATIVE), of which it was one of the founding members. In addition, the party is involved in the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties , which its representatives have so far visited four times. At two other meetings, the party sent a greeting.

Content orientation

As suggested by membership in the INITIATIVE and the international meeting, already at the organizational level, the KPM describes itself as Marxist-Leninist , but in its real position it is open to various communist currents and supported social democratic governments. The KPM made positive references to the Chuch'e ideology , the official ideology of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea .
