Johann Theodor von Franken-Siersdorf (born August 1, 1720 in Hildesheim ; † May 21, 1779 ; other forms of name: Johann Theodor von Franken-Sierstorpff , Johann Ignace von Franken-Siersdorf ) was a German Catholic clergyman from the house of Franken-Siersdorf , who from 1760 until his death held the office of the last vicar apostolic of Upper and Lower Saxony and the first titular bishop of Samosata .

Church offices

He was ordained a priest on March 5, 1742 and was incardinated in the diocese of Hildesheim .

On September 17, 1760, as Johann Ignace von Franken-Siersdorf, he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Upper and Lower Saxony and at the same time titular Bishop of Samosata. He was ordained bishop on November 21, 1762 by Johann Friedrich von Lasser , auxiliary bishop in Mainz .

As sinecures which is Holy Cross pen called.

effect

His possibilities of action were limited by the fact that the Hanoverian government did not recognize him as Apostolic Vicar. There is evidence of a close collaboration with Friedrich Wilhelm von Westphalen , then Apostolic Vicar of the North .

In the literature, Franken-Siersdorf is often referred to as "auxiliary bishop", but this should not be correct, since he carried the title of vicar apostle and was thus bishop sui iuris .
