Tadeusz Konwicki
Tadeusz Konwicki (born June 22, 1926 in Nowa Wilejka , today Lithuania , † January 7, 2015 in Warsaw , Poland ) was a Polish writer and film director .
Life
Konwicki was born in 1926 in the Polish city of Nowa Wilejka, which passed to Lithuania in 1945 and was incorporated into Vilnius in 1957 . There he fought in 1944 and 1945 as a partisan in the Polish Home Army .
After the end of the war he came to Gliwice , then to Krakow , and from 1947 he lived in Warsaw. Konwicki initially wrote a few novels in the spirit of socialist realism , while later, in a metaphorical-grotesque manner, he primarily processed the experiences of war and occupation. In addition, there were works in which he drew a lyrical and mythologized picture of his childhood home, around 1974 in the novel Chronicle of some love accidents (Polish: Kronika wypadków miłosnych ), which was made into a film by Andrzej Wajda in 1986. Another focus of his work was the portrayal of the decline in moral values and social ties in the totalitarian state , for example in the novel Eine kleine Apokalypse ( Mała apokalipsa ) from 1979, which was initially published underground and was filmed by Constantin Costa-Gavras in 1992.
Konwicki is considered to be one of the co-founders of Polish auteur films . A series of works was created between 1957 and 1989 based on his own scripts. From 1956 to 1968 he was also chief dramaturge at the Kadr film studio , which was founded by director Jerzy Kawalerowicz . In 1966 he received the State First Class Prize, and in 2002 the Polish Pen Club Prize .
