Carmelo Scicluna

Carmelo Scicluna (born August 3, 1800 in Qormi ; † July 12, 1888 ) was a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Malta .

Life

The ordination received Carmelo Scicluna on 18 December 1824th

Pope Pius IX appointed him on March 15, 1875 Bishop of Malta and Titular Archbishop of Rhodus . He was ordained episcopate on April 11th of the same year by Francesco Converti OFMObs , Archbishop of Reggio Calabria ; Co- consecrators were Francesco Saverio Mangeruva , Bishop of Gerace , and Antonius Grech-Delicata-Testaferrata-Cassia , Bishop of Gozo . In 1880, Archbishop Scicluna ordered that the annual Good Friday procession should actually be held on Good Friday instead of Maundy Thursday as was previously the case. In August 1884 Antonio Maria Buhagiar OC , Titular Bishop of Ruspae , was appointed Apostolic Administrator because of his advanced age and physical weakness .

Carmelo Scicluna died at the age of 87 after serving as Bishop of Malta for 13 years. The funeral service took place at St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta . He was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral in Mdina .
