Mark Boyle (born February 19, 1981 ) is a Scottish billiards player from Bannockburn . In the second half of the 2000s he played two seasons as a professional on the Snooker Main Tour .

Career

Mark Boyle drew attention beyond Scotland in 2001 when he reached the round of 16 first at the U-21 World Cup and then at the Amateur World Cup . He also took part in UK and Challenge Tour tournaments to qualify for the professional tour, but was unsuccessful.

In 2006 he reached the final of the IBSF World Grand Prix , which was held as a replacement for the failed World Amateur Championship. Although he lost to Michael White 5:10, the Welshman was too young to take part in the main tour, and so the professional ticket went to Boyle. In the 2006/07 season he took part in all professional tournaments, except for a win against Ben Woollaston 5: 4 at the China Open and two group games at the Grand Prix , he lost all games and lost his professional status after a year.

Boyle was particularly successful at the state level. In 2005 he had reached the final of the Scottish Championship and just lost 6-7 to Ricky McDonald . In 2009 there was also a decision about first place in the national ranking at the championship, which also meant qualification for the Main Tour. Leading Anthony McGill lost his semifinals and Boyle had a chance to catch up if he won the championship. He defeated Ross Vallance 7-0 in the final . McGill and Boyle tied for 1st place in the annual standings, but because he won the last tournament, the tour ticket went to Boyle.

But the second season of 2009/10 was hardly better than the first, only at the Grand Prix he won his opening match against Craig Steadman and the win against Patrick Wallace at the World Championship did not change much about the fact that he was the 88th of 96 players Tour had to leave again.

Although the Scot still took part in snooker tournaments afterwards, he turned more and more to pool and was successful as an amateur in the blackball variant .
