The 2002 IBSF World Snooker Championship was the 28th edition of the World Amateur Snooker Championship . It took place from October 20th to November 2nd, 2002 in the Movenpick Hotel in the Egyptian capital Cairo . The IBSF World Cup was supposed to be held in Egypt as early as 2001, but was canceled due to the war in Afghanistan .
The Australian Steve Mifsud became world champion with an 11: 6 victory in the final against the Welshman Tim English .

The 88 participating players were divided into eight groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The four best placed in each group qualified for the final round, which was played in the knockout system .
