1972 World Amateur Snooker Championship

The 1972 World Amateur Snooker Championship was the fifth edition of the World Amateur Snooker Championship . It took place in the War Memorial Hall in the Welsh capital Cardiff . The Englishman Ray Edmonds became world champion with an 11: 8 victory in the final against the South African Mannie Francisco . The Welshman Mario Berni played the highest break of the tournament with 114 points .

mode

The 18 participating players were divided into four groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The two best placed in each group qualified for the second group phase, the other players determined the broad placements in the play-off round. In the second group phase, the four participants in the final round were determined, who then competed against each other in the knockout system .
