The 1989 IBSF World Snooker Championship was the 16th edition of the World Amateur Snooker Championship . It took place in the Ngee Ann Complex in Singapore . World champion was the Irishman Ken Doherty with an 11-2 victory in the final against the Englishman Jonathan Birch .
The 61 participating players were divided into eight groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The top two in each group qualified for the final round, which was played out in the knockout system .
