The 2008 IBSF World Snooker Championship was the 33rd edition of the World Amateur Snooker Championship . It took place from October 27th to November 8th, 2008 in the Boschhalle in Wels and for the first time in Austria . World champion became the Thai Thepchaiya Un-Nooh , who qualified for the Main Tour 2009/10 . In the final he defeated the Irishman Colm Gilcreest 11: 7. The Chinese Xiao Guodong won the game for third place with 3-2 against the Iranian Soheil Vahedi .

The 100 participating players were divided into 13 groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The three best placed in each group and the nine best group fourth qualified for the final round, which was played in the knockout system , with the group winners and the three best runners-up receiving a bye in the first round.
