Kevin Van Hove-Speltincx (born October 15, 1983 in Merksem / Antwerp ) is a Belgian snooker player . In the 2007/08 season he was a professional player on the Snooker Main Tour .

Career

Kevin Van Hove was one of the best snooker players of his generation in Belgium and won the national junior championship three times in a row from 2002 to 2004. In 2004 he won the official senior title at the same time . He also took part in international youth tournaments and reached the quarter-finals at the U19 European Championships in 2001 . At the U21 World Cup , however, he never got past the last 32.

In 2004/05 he tried to qualify for professional snooker on the Challenge Tour . Although he achieved respectable successes over Atthasit Mahitthi and Ian Brumby , at the latest in round 3 he was eliminated from the tournaments. In the following year, all appearances at 4 of the 8 tournaments of the PIOS Tour, which followed the Challenge Tour, ended with defeats at the beginning. The next attempt was more successful. In the second PIOS tournament of the 2006/07 season he reached the semi-finals and lost to Julian Logue from Northern Ireland. He defeated that in the fifth tournament, but then lost to Kurt Maflin in the round of 16. The other results lagged behind and so he only reached 24th place in the final score. In 2007 he was European amateur champion with victories over Vincent Muldoon and in the final over Rodney Goggins 7-2. He then also prevailed at the EBSA International Play-Off and thus secured a place on the Main Tour for the next season .

At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he won his first game against Kurt Maflin at the Shanghai Masters 5-2. In the group round of the Grand Prix , however, he only won a single match against Drew Henry and missed the main round. He then lost 5-0 to Mark Joyce and had to play against him again in the next tournament. Again he lost clearly and in the remaining three tournaments he was unsuccessful. With only 7 world ranking tournaments in the season, he had no chance of staying on the tour.

The following year he tried the PIOS tournaments again, but only made it to the round of 16 once and was otherwise eliminated on average in the second round. The attempt to defend the title at the European Championship also ended in the round of 16. In 2009/10 he lagged behind these results in the PIOS Tour and the European Championships and was far from returning to the Main Tour. In the 2010/11 season , the Players Tour Championship (PTC) was introduced with small tournaments in which professionals and amateurs could take part. He entered two tournaments and was in the main round, but lost to his professional opponents. He achieved better results at the 2011 amateur world championships and the 2011 and 2012 European championships , where he reached the quarter-finals. In 2013, he moved into the second main round at the PTC tournament in Rotterdam for the first time with a win over professional player James Cahill .

In the following years he stayed away from the PTC tournaments and was no longer so successful at the amateur championships. In 2016, at the age of 32, he tried again to qualify for the Main Tour directly via the Q School . In both qualifying tournaments he was eliminated early.

From 2011 Van Hove also played in the German snooker Bundesliga and joined the BSV Wuppertal . In 2011/12 and 2012/13 he was with the Association of German Masters. After a two-year break, he returned in 2016/17 and became runner-up with 1st SC Mayen-Koblenz .

In 2018 he reached the final of the Belgian championship for the sixth time and won the national title for the second time in 14 years with a win over Julien Leclerq.
