2007

The Northern Ireland Trophy 2006 was a snooker tournament of the 2006/07 season , which was held from August 13th to 20th, 2006 in the Waterfront Hall in the Northern Irish capital Belfast . In the previous year, the tournament was held as an invitation tournament, and in 2006 it was held for the first time as a ranking tournament for all 96 professional players.

Last year's title holder Matthew Stevens made it to the round of 16 this time. He lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan , who then moved into the final. But the winner was the Chinese Ding Junhui , who defeated the English with 9: 6. It was Ding's third title win in his career, all three successes were within 17 months.

final

The first phase was dominated by Ronnie O'Sullivan , but Ding Junhui was able to equalize a 1: 3 with a series of four frame wins and in turn play out a two-frame lead until the session break. But in the evening session the Englishman struck back and equalized. When the score was 6: 6, it was the Chinese who achieved the 9: 6 win with another run. Ding had only made it into the top 32 in the preseason with two tournament wins and confirmed his advancement to the top of the world with his third title win. It was O'Sullivan's third consecutive defeat in the final.
