The UK Championship 2006 was a snooker tournament that was held from December 4th to 17th, 2006 at the Barbican Center in York . Peter Ebdon won the final 10: 6 against Stephen Hendry . The two had faced each other in the final eleven years earlier and Ebdon had clearly lost at that time. For Hendry it was his tenth and final final at the UK Championship. So he drew level with record holder Steve Davis , but missed to set his record of six wins.

Prize money

After two years of decline, the prize money rose again, by more than £ 50,000 . The winner got £ 7,000 more than last year and all other awards, except for those for the losers in the round of 64, have also been increased.

From November 14th to 19th, the three qualifying rounds were played, from which 16 players emerged who competed against the seeded players of the main tournament.

Main tournament

From December 4, the players competed in York. The last time the main tournament began with a preliminary round, in which the 16 players were determined who went against the 16 top-seeded players in the tournament end phase.

Century breaks

With 71 century breaks in the main tournament of the 48 best players, the record of 2003 (62) was clearly exceeded. Tournament winner Peter Ebdon was the most successful player with 8 breaks of 100 or more points, half of which he scored in his opening match against Mark Selby . Two players, Mark King and David Gray , only missed a maximum break by 1 point each. And neither scored another century during the entire tournament.
