The 1985 UK Championship was a snooker tournament that was played from November 15 to December 1, 1985 at the Guild Hall in Preston . The Englishman Steve Davis defended his title from the previous year with a narrow 16:14 win against his compatriot Willie Thorne .

Prize money

The prize for the winner had doubled within two years and the total prize money was slightly more than twice as high as in 1983. Up to 64th place, prize money of £ 525 was awarded, the lowest prize being £ 150 at the end of the day.

For the first time, a three-digit number of players took part in a UK Championship. In addition to the 16 players already seeded for the final tournament, 89 participants had to go through three qualifying rounds to complete the main field.
